Well after a month of not updating I am back.
So this blog is now twelve months old -how time flies- and maybe its time to get the champagne out to celebrate not only the blog but after a very wet Summer followed by an equally wet Autumn I have completed the renovation work on all the Cricket squares Hooray! I think I am about a month behind where I should be.
Today my pickup is at the garage having a new alternator fit so I have time to post.
What I intend to do is to post a few pictures of some of the work and places I have been since the last post.
The above three are Old Modernians.
Above is Whitkirk C C who are talking about some Koroing work next Autumn.
This photo tells where the last three were taken. I understand they have got a grant to grade an already flat outfield, good on them.
As time was rolling on I was getting concerned as to when my pitch at Kirkstall would dry out so I got the "Groundsman" aerator out and spiked the square hoping that it would help the drying process.
With the weather being so wet for so long we had to work at times when conditions were far from ideal.
Here you can see there was a lot of rubbish to come out, and it was hard to pick up cleanly being wet.
This is Woodhouse C C
Above is Pudsey St Lawrence I made numerous visits here and the job was completed in about four stages as we kept getting rained off.
The square at Pudsey St Lawrence is Surrey loam and when it gets wet it is like a bar of soap and takes forever to dry out I even resorted to taking the "Magic Sponge" in an effort to help it dry out.
Eventually on the 15th of October I managed to get the job completed. As it was getting so late in the season I used Hurrell's "Cold Start" mix of grass seed which is able to germinate at low temperatures
5 degrees and a little lower, lets hope it germinates!
On a cold frosty morning on the 24th September -sorry these posts are out of sequence- I went along to Pool Cricket club and helped them with their renovations. I always like going there as there is always plenty of help to hand. The day turned out to be the best day of the whole Autumn how lucky were Pool?
I understand that after the heavy rain which cause the seed to migrate and the cool wet weather that some over seeding was required this last weekend. I have never seen such a bad season for slow germination and I believe we will have our work cut out next spring.
The following day I was off up to Killinghall the weather had changed but it was still workable.
Just a few photo which sow typical weather this Autumn the top 2 were on one of the many visits to Pudsey St Lawrence and the bottom at Kirkstall.
A short break from the Cricket squares here I have a Bowling green to Scarify and Hollow tine at Bramhope
And on the 21st October I got seed in at Kirkstall.
I have not shown all the grounds and jobs completed some time I forgot the camera some times I forgot to take photos and sometimes I was just too busy.
My computer is now playing up and I am getting depressed looking back on what has been an awful Autumn so I will get back into updating again soon that is if you can stand another year of my ramblings.
See you soon
Hodgy
